Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday announced a COVID assistance package of Rs 11 crore for dairy farmers of Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation (OMFED).
Under the package, every dairy farmer will be provided with a maximum of Rs 6,000 towards fodder. It will benefit 1,20,000 dairy farmers in the State.
The Chief Minister said that the Covid pandemic had a serious impact on the economy around the world, including Odisha. While almost all other sectors of the economy are in a state of turmoil, only agriculture and allied sectors have revitalized the economy.
He lauded the courage of the farmers to continue their productive work during lockdown and shutdown.
The Chief Minister observed that dairy farming plays an important role in the rural economy and is especially helpful in the livelihoods of small and marginal farmers. A large decline in the demand for milk and dairy products due to the Covid pandemic has seriously affected the livelihoods of dairy farmers.
With this in mind, he said that the state government has decided to provide financial assistance to the dairy farmers and hopes that it will help in the economic development of the farmers.
