Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday directed immediate financial assistance for four persons suffering from critical illnesses. The decision came during the public grievance hearing held at the Chief Minister’s grievance cell in Bhubaneswar.
Following the Chief Minister’s directives, a special initiative has been launched in the grievance cell starting today. Under the single-window system, immediate assistance is being provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to individuals suffering from incurable and critical illnesses.
Today, financial aid was approved for several beneficiaries: Hemant Sahoo from Nimapada, Puri district, who is suffering from paralysis, received ₹1 lakh; Bichitra Paikaray from Nirakarpur, Khordha district, also afflicted with paralysis, received ₹1 lakh; Hajira Bibi from Bhoograi, Balasore district, suffering from bone marrow cancer, received ₹3 lakh; Indu Behera from Tikabali, Kandhamal district, battling cancer, received ₹1 lakh; and Rashmita Nayak from Gajapati district, who has exhausted all her resources for her son’s treatment, received ₹1 lakh.
To expedite the process of providing immediate assistance, a medical team was also deployed at the grievance cell.
Addressing the media, the Chief Minister stated that through the grievance cell, the government is extending support to people from all sections of society. Special priority is being given to persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and those in need of urgent services. People burdened with sorrows and problems are coming forward with their complaints and grievances. All complaints are being taken seriously, and necessary actions are being directed to the concerned departments and authorities for swift resolution.
Today, along with the Chief Minister, seven members of his Council of Ministers were present to listen to the grievances of the people.
Apart from medical assistance, complainants raised various other issues. All grievances were heard with utmost importance, and wherever necessary, ministers and senior officials present at the cell issued immediate instructions to the concerned authorities over the phone. The faces of those leaving the grievance cell reflected hope and satisfaction.
It is noteworthy that since the inception of this grievance hearing program on July 1 last year, out of 8,737 complaints received up to the eighth session, 7,331 complaints have been resolved, accounting for 84%. The remaining complaints are under process.
Present at today’s session, along with the Chief Minister, were Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water, and Rural Development Minister Rabi Narayan Naik, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, Fisheries and Animal Resources Minister Gokulananda Mallik, and Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department Satyabrata Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary of the General Administration and Public Grievance Department Surendra Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue and Disaster Management Department Deo Ranjan Kumar Singh, and other senior secretaries from various departments were also present to oversee the proceedings.
