**Bhubaneswar: ** Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday announced ex-gratia for the bereft families of the 18 persons who lost their lives in lightning strikes in different parts of the State on Sunday.
As per a press note from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the CM has expressed his grief over the deaths in lightning while announcing the ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh each for the kin of the deceased.
Notably, as many as fourteen persons had been killed and four others were critically injured in lightning at various places across the State on Sunday.
According to reports, three persons died at different villages in Chandbali block and one each at Orali and Rambila villages under Tihidi block of Bhadrak district.
The lightning also killed two and had had injured three in Balasore district. One person was killed and one had been injured in Mahamadabad village under Srijanga panchayat while another person was killed and two had been injured at Kuligan under Khandapada police limits.
Similarly, one person was killed at Petachhela and two others at Kuchila villages under Mahakalapada block and Bantala village under Patakura block of Kendrapara district respectively.
One house had also caught fire due to lightning at Andulapur under Rajnagar Tehsil in Kendrapara, sources added.
In another report, one person from Anra village under Banspal block of Keonjhar district and one at Balaramprasad village in Angul district respectively died due to lightning.
