Odisha CM Dedicates SDC Projects To 9 Tribal Dists, 19.50 MLD Drinking Water Project To Bargarh Town

**Bhubaneswar: ** Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today dedicated all projects under Special Development Councils (SDCs) to the nine tribal-dominated districts through video conferencing from the State Secretariat here. He also held interaction with the SDCs.

The nine tribal districts are Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Nabarangpur.

Briefing media soon after the significant occasion, Odisha ST & SC Development Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi said, “Today the Hon’ble Chief Minister interacted with the office bearers of the Special Development Councils in Odisha’s nine tribal districts. He also inaugurated the projects done by the Special Development Councils.”

The Minister informed, “Hon’ble Chief Minister also directly interacted on the steps to protect and conserve Adivasi languages, their cultures, traditional ‘haats’ (market places) and the status quo to be maintained. Odisha is the only State in the entire country to have formed Special Development Councils for tribal districts. It aims at the socio-economic-cultural development of the tribals. Hence, the tribals of the nine districts today thanked the Chief Minister.”

He also informed that the Chief Minister dedicated today 2413 Sacred Groves, 222 Tribal Culture Clubs, 491 Weekly Haat, 1147 Culture Clubs provided musical instruments, 425 dance troupes were provided dance constumes, 30758 Artisan Cards to the tribal artisans and 1565 Sports Kits.

The Chief Minister also today inaugurated 19.50 MLD drinking water project under BASUDHA for Bargarh town. It has been built at an estimated cost of Rs 37.23 crore.

As per a press note relased by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), this inaugurated project will cater to the drinking water needs of Bargarh town for the next 15 years while 1.10 lakh people of the town will be benefitted.

This project has been made functional tapping water from Bargarh’s West Canal. For this purpose, four water reservoirs of 4.15 million litres capacity and two of 1.85 million litres capacity have been constructed.
This project has been built under the State Government’s BASUDHA scheme and it has been named as ‘Augmentation of Water supply to Bargarh Municipality’.

Notably, Bargarh town’s daily drinking water need is 14.82 million litres while it used to be 4.5 million litres.
