Bhubaneswar: In view of the ongoing West Asia crisis, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday directed district administrations to remain on high alert and ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities across the state.

Chairing a virtual review meeting with District Collectors from Lok Seva Bhawan, Majhi instructed that district-level enforcement squads be kept in 24-hour action mode to prevent black marketing, illegal hoarding, and unjustified price hikes.

The Chief Minister reviewed preparedness at the district level and emphasized regular market monitoring. He warned of strict action against unscrupulous traders attempting to exploit the situation.

Reassuring the public, Majhi said adequate stocks of essential commodities are available and the supply chain is being streamlined. He urged citizens not to panic and asked district authorities to proactively disseminate information on availability of key items.

Referring to the meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Chief Ministers on March 27, Majhi said states have been advised to function in a “Team India” spirit. He stressed the need for coordinated action and a unified approach during the evolving situation.

The Chief Minister also directed officials to act firmly against rumor-mongering and to closely monitor social media platforms to prevent the spread of misinformation and panic.

He informed that Crisis Management Groups have been constituted at both state and district levels and highlighted the importance of coordination to maintain steady supplies of essential commodities.

District Collectors were specifically asked to keep close watch on the availability of petrol, diesel, LPG, fertilizers, and other essential goods, and to intensify public awareness campaigns.

During the meeting, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra, Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Development Commissioner D.K. Singh, and senior officials including Director General of Police Y.B. Khurania were present. Principal Secretary Sanjay Singh briefed the gathering on measures being taken by the state government, while District Collectors outlined steps undertaken in their respective jurisdictions.
