Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has decided to double the assistance amount given under the ‘Mamata Yojana’.
Currently, under the Mamata Yojana, pregnant women are provided an assistance amount of Rs 5,000 in two instalments.
Now, as per the new decision of the Chief Minister pregnant women will get assistance of Rs 10,000 under the Mamata Yojana.
All eligible beneficiaries from August 2023 will get this enhanced amount. The beneficiaries will get the enhanced amount between the 20th and 25th of February.
To reduce maternal and infant mortality and malnutrition Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the popular Mamata Yojana in 2011. Mamata Yojana is a very popular scheme and has been adopted as a model at the national level.
In the new Mamata Yojana, the assistance amount will be directly transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account in two instalments. In the first instalment (after 6 months of pregnancy), Rs 6,000 and in the second instalment after ten months of age of the infant Rs 4,000 will be provided.
All pregnant women above 19 years of age can get this assistance for 2 living children.
It has been decided that the mothers belonging to 13 PVTGs will be given Mamata assistance amount for each pregnancy.
It is worth mentioning that during the 5T and Naveen Odisha Chairman Kartik Pandian’s district visits, women proposed to increase this amount of assistance. After this came to the Chief Minister’s notice the amount of assistance under the Mamata scheme was increased.
Notably, since the inception of this scheme, more than 60 lakh pregnant and post-natal mothers have benefited. The state government has transferred Rs 2,900 crore to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries under this scheme.
