Bhubaneswar: On World Suicide Prevention Day, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida called upon people to prioritize mental health and work together to prevent suicides.
Chief Minister in his tweet highlighted the state’s Jeevan Zindabad programme, aimed at preventing suicides, and urged citizens to pledge against suicide, love life, and create widespread social awareness.
His tweet reads: “Suicide is not the path to a solution; it is a weak mindset. To prevent suicide, our government has launched the statewide ‘Jeevan Zindabad’ programme. On this Suicide Prevention Day, let us take a pledge – to overcome problems, to love life, and to work together to create widespread social awareness for the prevention of suicide.”
Deputy CM Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo emphasized the value of every life, advocating for compassion and empathy.
He tweeted: “Every life holds infinite value. On World Suicide Prevention Day, let us replace judgment with compassion, and silence with empathy. By changing the narrative—from stigma to support—we can build a society where mental health is prioritized, conversations are welcomed, and no one feels alone in their struggle. Together, let, and healing.”
Deputy CM Pravati Parida echoed similar sentiments, stating that suicide is never the solution to problems and signifies a weak mindset. She highlighted the Jeevan Zindabad programme as a unique effort to raise awareness against suicide.
Taking to her X handle, she wrote: “No matter how big the problem is, suicide is never the solution. Suicide is a sign of a weak mindset. To raise awareness against it, Suicide Prevention Day is observed. With this objective, our government’s ‘Jiban Jindabad’ programme is a unique effort in this direction.”
