Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today felicitated sand artists from abroad who had participated in the Sand Art Festival held at Chandrabhaga beach on the occasion of the Konark Festival.
Six sand artists hailing from the USA, Canada, Russia, Ireland, Denmark and Togo were felicitated at the Lok Seva Bhawan here.
Apart from congratulating the invitee artists, Patnaik apprised them on the rich artistic heritage of Odisha.
At the felicitation ceremony, Director Tourism presented a video of the Sand Art Festival.
“This is my first time in India. We had the honour of meeting the Chief Minister. We presented our work and talked about sand sculpting. We enjoyed staying in Konark and carving sand there and meeting lots of Indian artists. It was a wonderful experience,” said Piti Usha, a sand artist.
“It’s a wonderful place, nice beach and landscape, nice people and the food is just wonderful. it’s really interesting to see so many sand artists,” said Spito Posention, another sand artist who was felicitated by the Chief Minister.
A total of 121 contestants participated in this festival which began from December 1 and is scheduled to end today.
