Odisha CM Grieves Sambalpur Custodial Death, Announces Rs 5 Lakh Ex Gratia

**Bhubaneswar: ** Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep grief at the death of a person at Aainthapali Police Station in Sambalpur city on Thursday night following which irate locals ran amok by ransacking and torching the police station premises along with its all valuable assets besides pelting stones at the police personnel.

Conveying his deep sympathy to the bereaved family, the Chief Minister also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 Lakh to the next of the kin of the deceased on compassionate ground, said a press note released by the Chief Minister Office (CMO).

Notably, Odisha DGP has already ordered for a probe into the custodial death allegation by the Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) of State Police and the HRPC ADG has already sent a team to Sambalpur on the very day of occurrence.

The team has been asked to submit its report soon by the DGP who has assured stringent action against the police staff found negligent of duty.

Following such an untoward incident, Ainthapali Police Station IIC, DCO and Sentry on duty have already been suspended.
