Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik this evening inaugurated the 32nd All India Santali Writers’ Conference by wishing the participants ‘Jatkage Jahar’ in Santali.
“I am very happy to participate in the 32nd All India Santali Writers’ Conference,” said Patnaik inaugurating the conference at the Rabindra Mandap here.
The Chief Minister took the opportunity to pay rich tributes to Pandit Raghunath Murmu, the inventor of the “Ol Chiki” script which is used in the Santali language.
Patnaik in his address described Santals as a proud forward community.
He added that Santals have a great interest in education.
“The literacy rate among Santalis is also good. Because of their interest in education, Santalis have earned fame in various fields,” the Chief Minister told the conference.
Patnaik stated that several good pieces of literature have been created in the Santali language.
He said writers like Chaitanya Prasad Majhi, Arjun Hembram, Damayanti Besra, Jadumani Besra and Gangadhar Hansda have enriched Santali literature.
