Odisha CM Lauds Entrepreneurship Skills Of Women SHGs

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday visited Mission Shakti Mela held at Exhibition Ground here and interacted with the participating women SHG members. Exclusive stalls like ‘Mandia Cafe’ representing millets based value added products, eco-friendly areca nut leaves made plates, Docra craft, Sabai craft, Terracotta, Bamboo craft, food & spices were lauded by the Odisha CM.

Naveen appreciated the entrepreneurship initiatives of the women SHGs and congratulated them on their noteworthy collective action towards socio-economic empowerment of women in Odisha. The women SHG members expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister for the financial assistance received from the State Government under State Interest Subvention Scheme – ‘Mission Shakti Loan’ at 0% annual rate of interest.

Promoting products prepared by Mission Shakti Self Help Groups across the State, the Directorate of Mission Shakti under the Department of Women & Child Development and Mission Shakti has organized a State level mega exhibition for the first time named ‘Mission Shakti Mela’ from December 5 to December to 16.

Mission Shakti Mela is a unique initiative by the Government to extend a platform to the women SHG producers and Producer Groups (PGs) to display and sell their wide range of products through this exhibition.

This Mela has 202 numbers of stalls for display and sale of various handloom, handicraft, non-timber forest produce (NTFP), food items, spices and non-farm products. Besides, 12 stalls in ‘Food Court’ are also managed by women Self Help Groups & women entrepreneurs. Till date Women SHG products worth Rs 2.03 Crore have been sold in the Mission Shakti Mela.

Mission Shakti has been a revolutionary initiative started in the year 2001 by Government of Odisha with the aim to empower women across the State, both rural as well as urban. It endeavours to provide sustainable livelihood solutions to Women SHGs and PGs with a view to enable them to generate a long term and sustainable income source.

Minister, Women & Child Development and Mission Shakti, Tukuni Sahu, Mission Shakti Advisor, Lopamudra Baxipatra, Principal Secretary, Department of W & CD, Anu Garg, Commissioner-cum-Director, Directorate of Mission Shakti, Sujata Karthikeyan and Chief Executive Officer, ORMAS, Rajesh Patil, also accompanied Chief Minister during the visit.
