Jagannathpur (Jharkhand): Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday announced that his government will double the honorarium of Odia school teachers in neighbouring Jharkhand from Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000 per month with immediate effect.

During his two-day pre-election campaign in Jharkhand, Majhi said that a House Committee of the Odisha Legislative Assembly will soon visit East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Seraikla-Kharsawan districts to ascertain the problems faced by the Odia-speaking people in Jharkhand and the government will initiates steps on the basis of its report.

“More than 40 lakh Odia-speaking people reside in East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum, Sareikela- Kharsawan districts of Jharkhand but they are being neglected by the Hemant Soren government. The Jharkhand government is trying to suppress Odia language and culture,” Majhi told the media after attending back-to-back election rallies at Jagannathpur and Chaibasa in West Singhbhum district.

The previous Naveen Patnaik government had been providing an honorarium of Rs 3,000 each to teachers in Odia schools in Jharkhand but it is too meager in current times, Majhi said, adding, “The Odia Samaj here brought this to my notice and I immediately assured them to double the amount of Rs 3000 to Rs 6,000.”
