Bhubaneswar: A day before the commencement of the iconic Rath Yatra festival, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Saturday held a mega cleanliness drive at Bada Danda (Grand Road) in Puri. He was accompanied by Deputy Chief Ministers KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida among others.
With a day left for the grand Rath Yatra to begin, CM Mohan Majhi picked up a broom to clean the dirt on Bada Danda.
On Rath Yatra day, Lord Jagannath and his siblings are brought to Bada Danda by lakhs of devotees in three massive wooden chariots. Keeping this in mind, CM rushed to Bada Danada along with his deputies and other cabinet ministers to clean the Grand Road and carried out a massive cleanliness drive.
On this occasion, CM said, “Tomorrow the Mahaprabhu Lord Jagannath will come to Bada Danda and give darshan to his devotees. As lakhs of devotees are expected to congregate on Bada Danda to have a glimpse of Trinity tomorrow, the state government undertook the cleanliness drive to keep the Bada Danda clean for the festival. This government initiative aims at creating awareness among people on cleanliness. We are urging devotees to ban single plastic and not to litter plastic on Bada Danda.”
Apart from Deputy CMs KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, Puri MP Sambit Patra, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj and volunteers took part in the cleanliness drive.
