Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today reviewed the progress of various infrastructure projects under the Works Department at Lok Seva Bhavan and directed officials to expedite the implementation of key development initiatives.

With 72% of the department’s budget already utilized, he emphasized the need to ensure full expenditure by the end of the financial year.

During the meeting, discussions centered on the Integrated Development Plan of Bhubaneswar and measures to ease traffic congestion in the capital.

It was revealed that several major projects have been planned, including the construction of an elevated corridor from Jayadev Vihar to Nandankanan, the development of Daya West Canal Road from Patia Railway Station Chowk to Suanga Mouja, and the widening of Jatni Road from Sundarpada.

Additionally, three new flyovers will be constructed at Kalpana Chowk, Museum, and Sishu Bhavan Chowk, along with an underpass at AG Chowk.

The ongoing work on the left parallel road from the Institute of Mathematics to Pathargadia-Utkal Hospital-Rail Vihar to Ekamra Kanan was also reviewed.

Plans have been finalized for the construction of three right access roads connecting Damna to Press Chowk, Kalarahanga to Barimund, and Kelucharan Park to Barimund.

The government has also proposed an inner ring road to enhance urban mobility.

The meeting highlighted the proposal for a 64-km inner ring road for Bhubaneswar, which will include six-lane roads from Tamando to Paikrapur and from Dhauli to Tamando.

Additionally, an outer ring road has been planned to accommodate the city’s expansion, covering a 148-km stretch with six lanes and two service roads at an estimated cost of Rs 6,152 crore. This project is expected to boost connectivity, support economic growth, and enhance tourism.

As part of the state’s broader road infrastructure plans, the government has also taken up the ambitious Grand Ring Road project, with an initial phase covering 287 km from Berhampur to Jeypore. This stretch will include four tunnels.

The development of Maa Tarini Temple in Keonjhar and the beautification of its periphery, with a budget allocation of Rs 214 crore, was also discussed, and the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure its timely completion.

The meeting also reviewed plans for the development of the Barbil Ring Road, the enhancement of Bhubaneswar’s Unit-2 area, and other key urban infrastructure projects.

The meeting was attended by Law, Works, and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Development Commissioner Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Nikunj Bihari Dhal, Principal Secretary of the Works Department Vir Vikram Yadav, and senior engineers of the Works Department.
