**Bhubaneswar:** In view of the prediction of the Regional Meteorological Centre, that the deep depression over Bay of Bengal will intensify into a cyclonic storm tonight after touching the Gopalpur coast, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today held a meeting to review the situation.
Patnaik during the review for the probable calamity instructed concerned officials to be on alert to avoid casualties and damage and has also directed to arrange adequate amount of relief materials.
With the road communication and electrification system the first to be damaged in cyclone, Patnaik has instructed engineers of concerned departments to carry out immediate repair works for restoration of the services.
He has also asked to arrange alternative power source for hospitals and water distribution systems.
Government holiday on September 21 in Ganjam, Gajapati, Khurda, Nayagarh and Puri districts have been cancelled by the CM. Collectors of all other districts have been asked to take appropriate steps in view of the situation.
As per reports, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are prepared for any probable cyclone in State. Relief and rescue materials have also been stocked for emergency purpose.
After the meeting Director of Regional Meteorological Centre HR Biswas said, “Now there is deep depression which is likely to convert into cyclonic storm and make a landfall near Gopalpur at midnight. It is a marginal cyclone, not like Hudhud or Phailin and will have its affect till tomorrow night and gradually weaken.”
