Odisha CM Thanks Puri Denizens For Their Sacrifice

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday thanked Puri denizens for adhering to his request to cooperate in the ongoing demolition drive for development of a 'Heritage Security Zone' around the Jagannath Temple in Puri.

Patnaik expressed his gratefulness towards the denizens for sacrificing their shops and dwelling houses in the security zone and stated they will be remembered ever by the Odia community for their oblation.

The Chief Minister had on August 23 asked the people living within the security zone, 75-metre radius of Jagannath Temple, for the sacrifice for implementing Justice B.P. Das Commission’s recommendations pertaining to the safety and security of Lord Jagannath’s temple.

As the land acquisition for the proposed 'Heritage Security Zone' has been initiated, around 75 per cent land has been acquired with approval of the landowners and titleholders in last 40 days.

The Chief Minister dedicated this success to Lord Jagannath and said it has strengthened his commitment to transform Puri into a World Heritage City. "Your love for Lord Jagannath will be penned as a glorious chapter in history," he added.

Patnaik also thanked all employees of the district administration and police who continued to perform their duties during the demolition drive even on Sundays and holidays.
