Odisha CM To Distribute Subsidy To Farmers Through DBT In Bargarh Tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will release the additional input subsidy of Rs 800 per quintal of paddy to farmers from December 8 at a state-level farmers’ convention in Bargarh district on Sunday.

As per reports, the programme is scheduled to take place at Sohela in Bargarh district where the Chief Minister will distribute the subsidy to farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The event will also be attended by several dignitaries, including local MLAs and BJP leaders.

Notably, the previous government had promised to provide a bonus of Rs 100 to farmers, but failed to deliver. The current government, led by Mohan Majhi is committed to fulfilling its promises to the farming community.

Sohela has been strategically chosen for the state-level convention to remind people about the failed promise by former CM Naveen Patnaik to farmers in 2015 for payment of Rs 100 as bonus over and above the minimum support price (MSP), said sources.

Meanwhile, farmers in the district are facing difficulties in selling their paddy crops due to various issues, including token-related problems and lack of proper infrastructure. As a result, paddy is lying unsold in markets and on roadsides.

The subsidy scheme is expected to bring relief to farmers and support the agricultural sector in the state.
