Bhubaneswar: In a major push to curb traffic violations and enhance road safety, the Transport Department has launched a state-wide special enforcement campaign. The drive targets reckless driving and rule violators amid ongoing efforts during National Road Safety initiatives.
On the first day of the campaign, the transport officials conducted strict checking across the state, resulting in impressive enforcement action. Fines totalling Rs 9,57,59,000 (approximately Rs 9.58 crore) were collected from offenders. As many as 17,831 e-challans were issued for various violations, and 64 vehicles were impounded for serious breaches.
Each Regional Transport Office (RTO) has formed dedicated special teams to ensure rigorous implementation of traffic rules. The campaign emphasizes zero tolerance for violations such as speeding, drunk driving, not wearing helmets/seatbelts, and other dangerous behaviors that endanger lives.
The special drive will continue until March 31, with intensified monitoring and enforcement expected in the coming days. Officials have urged motorists to strictly adhere to road safety norms, respect the value of human lives—including their own and fellow road users—and follow traffic regulations to ensure safe journeys and return home unharmed.
