Bhubaneswar: Soon after assuming charge, Odisha Government’s Commerce & Transport Department Principal Secretary N.B.S. Rajput undertook an extensive tour of western and southern parts of the State to review key aviation and public transport infrastructure projects.
During his visit to Utkela Airport, Rajput assessed operational preparedness, passenger amenities, runway infrastructure and the scope for expansion under regional connectivity initiatives. He reviewed ongoing development works and stressed the need for better coordination among executing agencies to strengthen air connectivity and boost economic growth in the KBK region.
At Jeypore Airport, the Principal Secretary examined plans for infrastructure augmentation, safety compliance and enhancement of passenger facilities. Interacting with airport officials and local stakeholders, he emphasised time-bound implementation and quality execution to ensure reliable and affordable air services in the region.
Rajput also inspected the OSRTC depot and bus stand at Bhawanipatna and reviewed transport facilities in Nabarangpur district. He focused on improving passenger convenience, maintaining cleanliness, strengthening digital ticketing systems, streamlining fleet operations and expediting depot modernisation initiatives. Officials were directed to enhance commuter amenities, ensure efficient scheduling and improve last-mile connectivity to interior blocks.
The Principal Secretary further reviewed revenue collection in Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Koraput districts. He called for stricter enforcement measures, improved compliance systems and greater use of digital platforms to ensure transparency and sustained revenue growth.
Highlighting the State Government’s commitment to strengthening multi-modal transport networks, Rajput said robust air and road connectivity is essential to unlocking regional growth, tourism potential and improved access to essential services. He reiterated the Department’s focus on integrated planning, timely project execution and citizen-centric service delivery.
Senior departmental and district officials accompanied him during the inspection tour, which reflects the State’s resolve to accelerate infrastructure development and promote inclusive connectivity across Odisha.
