Odisha: Community Engagement, Infrastructure Audit Start For Bhubaneswar Art Trail

**Bhubaneswar:** In view of the upcoming Men’s Hockey World Cup, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation is planning an art trail which would showcase the traditional old city and modern day capital city from November 20 to December 20. Today, the preliminary steps for Bhubaneswar Art Trail (BAT) project was undertaken that included infrastructure mapping, engagement with local community, and formation of a curators’ team with Prem Jisk Achari, well-known artist Jagannath Panda and Prof. Hannah Barnes.

This unique project that will be undertaken by Utsha, BDA, Bhubaneswar Urban Knowledge Centre (BUKC) and BMC would entail exploring the history, lived realities and social relations of the various communities and will be inaugurated on November 18.

Curators have already been appointed and artist invites have been sent out for the same. Infrastructure requirements have been mapped in detail with the BUKC and social mobilisation has also begun with engagements with schools, local bodies, residents and local clubs like Kedargouri Club, Guajhara Association, BK College of Art and Crafts and Dhauli College of Art.

Specific requirements like street lights, repair work, setting up of toilets, cleaning of streets, drainage repair, and painting of walls have also been chalked out.

The funding of the trail would be mainly from Department of Tourism, Dept of Sports and Youth Services and Tata Steel.
