Bhubaneswar: Even as Odisha continues to be in the grip of a severe heat wave, the Special Relief Commissioner’s office on Saturday confirmed the death of one person due to the heat wave.
According to the SRC, following a review of the heat wave condition in various districts of Odisha, it was confirmed that a middle-aged person succumbed to the heat wave in the Balasore district. An ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 has been paid to the bereaved family.
The government has so far received 20 complaints of heat wave deaths across the state and the district Collectors have been directed to inquire about the validity of these complaints, a release issued by the SRC read. “So far, we have received information on 20 alleged heat wave fatalities. One death has been confirmed so far in Balasore district. The others are being inquired by the collectors,” the official said, adding Rs 50,000 will be paid to bereaved families in case of death due to heat waves.
