Bhubaneswar: A Railway Police constable’s swift action saved a man from being crushed under a moving train at Cuttack Railway Station on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred at around 8.5 am when Md. Mujahir (44), a resident of Mirjapur in West Bengal’s Uttar Dinajpur district, attempted to board the moving 22503 Kanyakumari–Dibrugarh Express. Mujahir slipped while trying to get onto the train and fell dangerously close to the gap between the platform and the train.
Constable Tulu Behera, who was on duty nearby, immediately rushed to the spot and pulled the passenger to safety, seconds before a tragedy could occur.
The passenger sustained only minor injuries and was provided with prompt medical assistance, officials confirmed.
Recognising the constable’s promptness and courage, Odisha DGP Y.B. Khurania announced a cash reward of Rs 2,500. ADG (Coastal Security and Railways) Arun Bothra also praised Behera for his heroic act during a personal phone call.
The incident serves as a powerful reminder of the critical role played by vigilant railway personnel in ensuring the safety of passengers.
