Bhubaneswar: Electricity dues amounting to ₹6,957.57 crore remain outstanding across Odisha, Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo informed the Assembly on Wednesday.

Responding to a question from Congress MLA Rama Chandra Kadam, Singh Deo said the arrears include ₹6,558.64 crore pending against active consumers and ₹398.93 crore owed by various industrial and commercial establishments.

The minister, who also handles the Energy Department, noted that power distribution companies have intensified efforts to recover the dues.

Monthly domestic bills are being collected through door-to-door visits, while special camps are being organised to clear long-pending arrears.

Consumers who fail to pay their bills on time are issued notices, followed by disconnection of their power supply if payments remain unsettled.

Singh Deo added that an online payment system has been put in place to make bill settlement easier, and street plays are being conducted in rural areas to raise awareness about digital payment options.
