Odisha Continues To Reel Under Scorching Heatwave Conditions, 5 Places Record 44°C Or More

Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to reel under heatwave to severe heatwave conditions with daytime temperature staying at or above 40°C  at 32 places and five of these registering 44°C or more.

According to the evening weather bulletin of the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD’s) regional centre here, Baripada turned out to be the hottest place in the State by recording a maximum day temperature of 44.8°C followed by Angul at 44.3°C, Boudh 44.1°C, Talcher 44°C, and Bhawanipatna 44°C.

While Cuttack recorded a maximum day temperature of 42.5°C, Bhubaneswar recorded 41.3°C.

In a special bulletin issued this afternoon, the IMD has warned that heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely over the districts of Odisha during the next 4 – 5 days.

The weather department has forecast that maximum temperature (Day Temperature) is likely to be above normal by 3 to 6°C over some districts of the State during the next 4 to 5 days.

The department has issued a ‘Red’ alert indicating heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail in the districts of Khurda, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Boudh,  Angul and Cuttack on Tuesday.

Similarly, heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail in the districts of Sambalpur, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bolangir, Sonepur, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur, Deogarh, Nuapada, Sundergarh, Rayagada and  Jharsugada on Tuesday and the department has issued an ‘Orange’ alert for these districts.

Besides, hot and humid weather conditions are likely to prevail over the districts of Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Bargarh, Rayagada, Koraput and Puri on Tuesday. The department has issued a ‘Yellow’ alert for these districts.
