Bhubaneswar: The 7th meeting of the Odisha Council of Ministers, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, convened at Lok Seva Bhawan on Wednesday to outline an ambitious roadmap for Odisha’s development.
The session, attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, all council members, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg, and senior officials, focused on the ‘Odisha Vision 2036 and 2047’ initiative.
In his address, Chief Minister Majhi emphasized the state’s resolve to transform Odisha into a prosperous and developed state by 2036, coinciding with the centenary of its formation. This vision aligns with the national goal of making India a developed nation by 2047, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Supported by NITI Aayog, the state began preparing the vision document in August 2024, with inclusion, prosperity, and wellness as its core pillars.
To contribute 5% to India’s GDP and achieve a GSDP of US$1.5 trillion by 2047, Odisha aims to accelerate its economic growth through collaborative efforts, public-private investments, and technology-driven coordination. A key component of this strategy is the ‘36 for 36’ initiative, comprising 36 flagship projects targeting transformative impact across critical sectors by 2036. Majhi underscored the importance of the council’s guidance in finalizing the draft and developing an actionable implementation plan.
Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja highlighted the need for export-oriented manufacturing and reforms in deregulation, decriminalization, and digitization to enhance Ease of Doing Business (EoDB). Development Commissioner Anu Garg, along with the six Sectoral Group of Secretaries (SGoS), presented the priorities of the ‘36 for 36’ initiative and the vision document’s objectives.
The Chief Minister stressed prioritizing infrastructure development, advocating for expanded road and railway networks, port facilities, and air connectivity. Ministers, including Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari, Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik, Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, and Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, among others, provided valuable insights to refine the vision document.
The council resolved to finalize the ‘Odisha Vision 2036 and 2047’ within 15 days through regional workshops at four locations, engaging public representatives, citizens, civil society members, and intellectuals. This participatory approach aims to ensure the vision reflects the aspirations of Odisha’s people, paving the way for a prosperous future.
