Odisha Covid Graph Gone Down, 2nd Wave Little Chance, But Be Cautious: Dr Jayanta Panda

Cuttack: While all are agog to know the official launch of vaccination against the prevalent global pandemic and even amid the apprehensive outbreak of second wave in our State during the current winter season, senior medical expert today allayed it but laid stress on religiously maintaining the Covid-19 protocols.

Interacting with media persons today, SCB Medicine Department’s Associate Professor and Odisha Health Department’s technical spokesperson Dr Jayanta Panda said, “You all know that we began with 4,900 positive cases, but now we have gone down to nearly 400 figure while the death toll has plummeted to 4. It’s evident of the efforts taken eight months ago in order to curb the Corona graph in Odisha. It has been completely successful.”

He explained, “Be it our concerted efforts of testing, training and treatment procedure, the measures undertaken have resulted in full success. It’s the outcome of a successful plan of action. Hence, we have successfully controlled Corona in comparison to other States in our country.”

Responding to media query on the suspected second wave of the pandemic, the medical expert stated, “There isn’t any apprehension of the second wave, because we’re all extremely cautious. For instance, we desisted from our age-old tradition Boita Bandana. None of us thronged the river banks and other water bodies. We have also debarred ourselves from bursting fire crackers on Diwali, even the Puja festival in a city like Cuttack. The people have sacrificed a lot and also the Covid warriors.”

“The apprehension we nursed during this winter, we hope it wouldn’t cause a big danger to Odisha. Still, we all need to be extra cautious till February. Be it wearing mask, washing hands and disinfection (sanitization), we need to keep on following strictly so that the concluding phase of our plan of action ends in the defeat of Coronavirus and our victory,” he advised.
