Bhubaneswar: Odisha woman cricketer Rajashree Swain, who was found hanging from a tree in a forest in Atagarh of Cuttack district on January 14, died due to asphyxiation, revealed her post-mortem report. The Gurudijhatia police, who are investing in the cricketer’s death case, received the autopsy report on Wednesday.
While the report further revealed that Rajashree had severe head injuries, the police said that since the cricketer died in mysterious conditions, they are unable to ascertain the exact reason for her death as well as rule out any foul play. Now, the police are waiting for the viscera examination report, which, they feel, will help them to pinpoint the precise reason for her death.
The 26-year-old cricketer had been missing since January 11 when she left a training camp organised by the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) in the Bajrakabati area, saying that she was going to meet her family.
On January 11, her coach Pushpanjali Banerjee filed a missing complaint at the Mangalabag police station. Later, a case of unnatural death was registered with the Gurudijhatia police station when the cricketer’s body was found in the forest by a guard. Rajashree’s scooty and some belongings were found by the same forest guard a day before her body was recovered.
While the police had initially suspected that Rajashree committed suicide as she was not selected for the final team announced by the OCA for a tournament in Puducherry, her parents cried foul play.
