**Bhubaneswar: ** During the last three months (upto March 31, 2018), Odisha’s Cyber Crime Cell registered 31objectionable viral video cases while the total such cases registered in the State since 2016 stand at 288.
This was informed to the Legislative Assembly on Monday (April 16, 2018) by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in a written reply to a question put by Congress MLA Bhujabal Majhi.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday informed that 31 objectionable videos have been made viral on social networking sites from.
The Chief Minister, who also holds Odisha’s Home Minister portfolio, also informed the House that 124 cyber crime cases were reported in the last three months.
The CM’s written reply also informed that in the 31 viral video cases, 19 accused persons have been arrested.
While in 2016 the total number of viral video cases registered was 73, the accused persons arrested were 41.
Similarly in 2017, the total number of viral video cases registered was 184 while 85 accused persons were arrested.
In 2016, 317 cyber cases were registered and 99 accused persons were arrested while in 2017, the number was 824 and 195 were arrested. In 2018 (upto March 31), 124 cyber cases were registered and 20 accused persons were arrested, the CM’s written reply stated.
