Nabarangpur: The last rites of noted lawyer Lokanath Pal was performed by his daughter Shitabdi here on Saturday. This is the first instance of a woman performing cremation rituals in the district.
Pal was an active social worker and former president of Nabarangpur unit of BJP. Speaking about the rituals, Shitabdi said that since she was the only child of her parents, her father always said that she was their son and daughter.
“I have done all the duties of a son and a daughter for my parents. As per Hindu traditions, performing the last rites is the duty of son, I duly performed that as well,” she said.
“My father always inspired me to be a straight-forward person in life. He advised to keep away from duplicacy and speaking behind others. I will always remember the words of my father in life and profession,” said Shitabdi, who is pursuing her Masters in Law.
Pal was associated with a number of social causes. He played an important role for the formation of Nabarangpur district and was instrumental in getting Government recognition for Nabanrangpur college.
