Bhubaneswar: Responding to the call of ‘Tika Utsav’ made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha has urged the Centre to allocate a minimum 25 lakh doses of Covishield to the State.
This allocation would make the Tika Utsav more successful in Odisha and also improve vaccination coverage in the entire State over the coming days, Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra stated.
In a letter to Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Mohapatra said, “Due to extremely low supply of vaccines to our State, we had to close down two-thirds of our vaccination centres. Several districts are now in stock-out situation and are unable to continue the vaccination programme.”
In Odisha, so far 39,84,878 doses of vaccines. Since April 1, 15,55,422 citizens aged above 45 years were vaccinated in the State. The overall performance of Odisha is more than National average in all categories of targeted beneficiaries, he added in the letter.
