Bhubaneswar: To ensure a fair and transparent paddy procurement process during the ongoing Kharif season, the Odisha government has deployed 1,282 nodal officers across 11 districts.
According to an official press release, this extensive measure aims to address farmers’ concerns promptly and streamline operations at procurement centers (mandis).
In addition to the nodal officers, 323 supervisors have been appointed, each overseeing two to three mandis. These officials are tasked with monitoring operations, assisting farmers, and addressing any issues that arise. The districts where paddy procurement is currently underway include Bargarh, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Koraput, Jharsuguda, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Keonjhar.
To enhance transparency and farmer support, arrangements have been made for farmers to report grievances directly. Nodal officers at the mandis are actively gathering feedback and resolving issues on-site. Farmers are being paid a minimum price of Rs 2,300 per quintal for their paddy, along with Rs 800 as input assistance.
District administrations have been instructed to maintain a strict vigil over all mandis. Supervisors and nodal officers are working together to ensure no eligible farmer faces hurdles during procurement. An official press release highlighted that ancillary arrangements have also been made for the convenience of farmers, such as efficient logistical support and grievance redressal mechanisms.
The state government’s proactive approach aims to uphold the rights of registered farmers, ensuring timely payments and a smooth procurement process. With a robust monitoring system in place, Odisha is striving for a seamless procurement season, benefiting both farmers and the agricultural economy.
