Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has deported 75 out of 77 Bangladeshi infiltrators identified across the state between June 2024 and February 2026, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the state assembly on Monday.
In a written reply to a question from BJD legislator Ganeswar Behera, Majhi stated that the deportations were carried out following directives from the Union Home Ministry.
According to the Chief Minister, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) issued instructions on May 2, 2025, leading to the formation of special task forces in all districts. These teams were tasked with the identification, detention, and deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
Additionally, all Superintendents of Police (SPs) were directed to expedite the process of identifying infiltrators residing within their respective jurisdictions, Majhi added.
The Chief Minister provided a district-wise breakdown of those deported, with the highest numbers coming from Bhubaneswar (26), followed by Jagatsinghpur (21), Cuttack (15), Berhampur police district (6), and Kandhamal (3).
