Cuttack: On the occasion of National Sports Day, commemorating the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania felicitated 41 outstanding sportspersons of Odisha Police for their remarkable achievements.
The special ceremony, held at the R.K. Padhi Memorial Hall at the IPS Mess in Cuttack, was attended by senior police officials and dignitaries.
DGP Khurania, as the chief guest, praised the exceptional sporting talent of Odisha Police athletes and said their achievements have enhanced the reputation of the force across the country.
He noted that the felicitation would not only recognize the contributions of the athletes but also inspire Odisha’s youth to embrace sports and strive for excellence.
DGP Khurania highlighted the remarkable performance of seven Odisha Police sportspersons at the World Police and Fire Games held in Birmingham, USA, where they secured an impressive tally of 13 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze medals. He described this feat as “a new chapter in the history of sports” and expressed confidence that many more Odisha Police athletes would soon excel in national and international events.
As part of the ceremony, the DGP presented shawls and cash awards to the 41 sportspersons and extended his best wishes for their bright future.
The event was graced by senior officers, including DGP (Crime Branch) Vinaytosh Mishra, Additional DGP (Anti-Naxal Operations) Sanjeev Panda, Director (SFSL) Dr. Santosh Bala, Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur, Additional DGP (Armed) Rajesh Kumar, Additional DGP (Headquarters) Pratik Mohanty, IGP Satish Gajbhiye, IGP Praveen Kumar, DIGP (Central Range) Dr. Satyajit Naik, DIGP (Provisioning) Charan Singh Mina, and DIGP (Crime Branch) B. Gangadhar.
AIG (Law and Order) Prabhashankar Nayak delivered the vote of thanks, while the event was coordinated by Odisha Police Headquarters Sports Officer Nilamadhab Swain.
