Puri: DG Police Dr RP Sharma on Sunday held a review meeting over security arrangements for Rath Yatra. The meeting was held at Puri town hall here with all senior police officials of the district present at the venue.
Dr Sharma laid stress on full proof measures to secure traffic, parking, cordon management, and special security for VIPs. More than ten senior IPS officers participated in the meeting. About a thousand police officers were also part of the security detail.
Total 155 platoon force including 15 SP & Commandent level officers, 39 Additional SP ranked officers, 80 DSP ranked officers, 110 Inspector ranked officers, 650 SIs and ASIs, 2,400 Home Guards, two companies of RAF, 2 units of OBF, 2 units of ATS, 2 units of NIA, two unit of ODRAF and one unit of NDRF will be deployed in the security detail of the Rath Yatra this year.
Among others, ADG Sanjeeb Panda, IGs Soumendra Priyadarshi, Amitabh Thakur, Arun Bothra and Asit Panigrahi were present at the meeting.
The DGP will hold another review meeting after the rehearsal and force mobilisation. “This was a final general briefing on Rath Yatra security for all officers who are in-charge of the detail. Our main aim would be to ensure convenient and peaceful darshan for millions of devotees,” Dr Sharma said.
“Traffic management and crowd control will be our priority. Multiple places have been earmarked for parking. Puri Rath Yatra holds international significance. Therefore, our intelligence and special forces are on high alert,” he added.
