Odisha DGP’s Stark Warning To Maoists: Surrender Or Face The Heat

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP) has issued a stern warning to Maoists, urging them to abandon violence and surrender. Those who continue to indulge in violence will face strict consequences, including action from the Special Operations Group (SOG).

The DGP made the statement while attending a two-day workshop organized by Commissionerate Police and Crime against Women wing, which saw participation from police officers and students of various educational institutions.

Speaking to the media, the DGP expressed optimism that Odisha will be Maoist-free before the deadline, citing the ongoing major operation in Kandhamal’s Daringbadi area, suspected to be a hideout of Maoist leader Sukru.

He emphasized that Maoists have limited options, stating, “The Maoists are at a crossroads. They must choose between laying down arms and joining the mainstream, or facing the consequences of their actions.”

He reiterated the state’s stance on violence, warning, “Any attempt to escalate violence will be met with a strong and decisive action from the state police. The state’s rehabilitation policy is open to those who surrender and renounce violence, offering financial assistance and support for reintegration. We urge Maoists to take advantage of the government’s rehabilitation policy and surrender with arms to avail benefits.”

The DGP highlighted the progress made in law enforcement, saying, “Our focus has been on swift investigation, prosecution, and conviction. In the past year, we’ve solved 170 cases, including one from Bhubaneswar, within 360 days – a testament to our commitment to justice.”
