**Puri:** In a shocking incident, a man was shot at allegedly over past enmity by a dreaded criminal near Kumuti Patana area under Talabania police limits here last evening. Taking immediate action in the case, cops nabbed the criminal in an encounter here late last night.
According to reports, the criminal named Rashmiranjan Panda alias Guddu is involved in several extortion cases. Guddu and his brother Chandan shot at one Rakesh Nayak over past enmity last evening and had fled the scene. Rakesh received four bullet wounds on his right thigh and is currently undergoing treatment at Puri DHH.
On intimation, cops reached the spot and chased the criminals. Guddu and Chandan fired at the cops following which the men in uniform had to fire back in retaliation. While Guddu sustained injuries in both his legs and was nabbed, his brother Chandan has gone absconding.
Guddu was initially rushed to Puri DHH and later shifted to Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital when his condition worsened. Cops have also seized a pistol and bullets from his possession.
