Bhubaneswar: DG Police Bijay Kumar Sharma on Wednesday directed Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi to take exemplary action against two traffic constables whose dereliction of duty was caught on camera.
The two constables Kalia Suna Behera and Ajay Kumar Pradhan were suspended by DCP Anup Sahoo on Tuesday. Following orders of the DGP, Behera has been transferred to Sundergarh and Pradhan to Malkangiri.
The punishment transfer came into immediate effect while the two are under suspension. The matter relates to Rupali Square where the two were posted a couple of days back. A local TV channel reporter spotted the duo resting on the roadside and allegedly consuming alcohol.
While being asked about the traffic situation the two avoided question from the media on camera. The locals complained that the two constables were under the influence of alcohol while being on duty.
The matter was taken seriously by the higher ups and an immediate action was initiated in form of suspension. “Their absence on the traffic post during the peak hour resulted in commotion. Their irresponsible and lackadaisical attitude towards duty is shameful,” a communiqué issued by the State Police Headquarters stated.
