Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has collected Rs 6,595.55 crore in taxes from the sale of pan masala, gutkha, tobacco, and related products over the past decade, from 2014-15 to 2024-25 (up to February 2025).
In the current financial year alone, the state has earned Rs 1,047.82 crore from these products up to February.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi shared this information in a written reply to a query by BJP MLA Tankadhar Tripathy from Jharsuguda in the State Assembly today. Data shared by the CM shows that tax revenue from these products has shown a consistent upward trend over the last 10 years.
Majhi also revealed that these products are being procured from 16 states across the country.
The steady increase in tax earnings reflects the growing consumption and sale of such products in Odisha, despite ongoing public health concerns related to their use.
