Bhubaneswar: Much to the relief of the consumers, the Odisha Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) has said that the electricity tariff for the year 2023-24 will remain unchanged.
As in the existing power rate chart, the rate of domestic electricity will be Rs 3 for the first 50 units, Rs 4.80 for 50 to 200 units, 5.80 paise for 200 to 400 units and 6.20 paise for more than 400 units.
Farmers have also been offered a discount of Rs 1.60 per unit for running cold storage. Earlier, the farmers had to pay Rs 4.60 per unit. Now, they will need to pay at the rate of Rs 3 per unit of power consumed.
Earlier, the common consumer received a 4 per cent discount if they paid bills in digital mode. Now, they would be given a 3 per cent discount. At the same time, the OERC will give a 25 per cent discount for every unit of power used for railway development.
Here is some good news for consumers in rural areas. Now, they can avail of a discount of 10 paise per unit in addition to existing rebates. Moreover, the DPS has been waived and the penalty will not apply to domestic users. For the second year in a row, the power tariff for common consumers has not been hiked.
OERC secretary Priyabrata Patnaik said that the commission held tariff hearings from February 13 to March 4 with various electricity distribution companies.
