Bhubaneswar: Odisha is fast emerging as a preferred destination for international students, attracting a growing number of foreign learners to its universities and professional institutions.
According to a recent NITI Aayog report on the internationalisation of higher education in India, the state welcomed 2,320 international students in the 2021-22 academic year.
These students enrolled in undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs across various institutions, highlighting Odisha’s rising prominence in the national higher education landscape.
The report notes that Odisha’s proactive state-level policies and investment in institutional development have played a key role in drawing foreign students, even as traditional academic hubs like Kolkata and Hyderabad witness relatively lower inflows.
Leading universities and colleges in Odisha participating in the survey include Berhampur University, Gandhi Engineering College, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, National Law University Odisha, Prananath College, Science College Autonomous Hinjilicut, Shailabala Women’s Autonomous College, Utkal University, and XIM University.
