Odisha: Environment Is Family, Trees Are Our Relatives, Soro Residents’ ‘Green’ Message On Rakhi

Balasore: Global warming has become a cause of seious concern in an era of meta-urbanisation. Trees provide a cushion to the environment and protect it from degrading further.

On the occasion of Rakhi, people in Soro block's Kesaripur village tied Rakhis to trees and spread a 'Green Message' to the world.

The noble initiative was under taken by the villagers who tied a huge rakhi to a 'Arjun tree' in the village outskirts that has provided respite to many from the heat.

Celebrating the unbreakable bond between man and nature, the enthusiastic youths of the village also planted saplings in the surroundings of Kesaripur Medical which will grow to make the village even more greener and healthier.

Natural calamities have become a phenomenon which has been attributed to deforestation. Kerala floods was one of the most feared testimony, a volunteers said.

"Tying Rakhi to a tree symbolises that the plant kingdom is family. And we pledge not to harm our relatives," the volunteer added.

With the day-long celebration, the volunteers urged people to become socially responsible and conscious towards mother nature.
