Bhubaneswar: An IT-graduate has been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of Odisha Crime Branch for his alleged complicity in a fake job racket. The accused in this case, Amit Kumar Singh of Maharajganj in Siwan district of Bihar has been booked under Sections 420/467/468/471/120-B of the IPC, and Section 66 (C) of the IT Act.
Singh was produced before the Additional CJM-6, Siwan which allowed the EOW a transit remand of the accused following which he was brought here for production before SDJM, Bhubaneswar.
“The arrestee is the developer of a website – www.grks.org (of “Gramin Rojgar Kalyan Sansthan”), where fake job Ads are posted. Apart from developing it, Singh also maintained the website from time to time,” an EOW official said.
Besides, he was liaising with different payment gateways like Cashfree, Razorpay, Bharatpay etc. for maintenance of wallets of “Gramin Rojgar Kalyan Sansthan” with them. He was also responsible for posting Ads on social media platforms for fake and non-existent job openings.
“He was providing the technical support to the job racket knowing it well to be fake and was getting the lucrative benefit of Rs 40,000 per week from the account of Gramin Rojgar Kalyan Sansthan.”
According to the EOW, the fake job racket was operational in 17 states with registered head office in Delhi and other offices at Mumbai, Bhopal and Dehradun. In Odisha they were active since 2020 and had posted job Ads on reputed dailies.
As of now transaction/ fraud/money laundering of about Rs 6.60 crore has been traced to have been cheated from more than 40,000 job aspirants across the nation. One laptop suspected to be containing some incriminating materials relating to the fraudulent activities of Gramin Rojgar Kalyan Sansthan has
been seized from the possession of the accused.
“The prime accused in this case, Dharmpal Singh and his associate Jairam Tiwari have been arrested by the EOW earlier. They are in judicial custody and further investigation in this case is continuing,” the EOW stated
