Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Excise Department seized and destroyed around 10,000 litres of molasses and country liquor during a raid in the Salia Sahi area of Bhubaneswar on Friday.
The Excise Department arrested 15 people, including women, in this connection.
For some time now, residents of the Salia Sahi area have been complaining that a section of people was brewing and selling illicit country liquor in the area. This not only polluted the area but became a hub for anti-social elements. Acting on the complaints, the Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Excise Department launched a joint operation in the area, destroyed the premises where country liquor was brewed and drained down the seized liquor and molasses.
Fifteen persons were also arrested for their involvement in the illicit liquor trade.
