Bhubaneswar: A high-level meeting of the Consultant Management Committee (CMC), chaired by Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg, was held today at Lok Seva Bhawan to discuss the strategic framework for Odisha’s Economic Survey 2025–26.
The meeting focused on aligning the state’s development priorities with the long-term visions of Viksit Odisha 2036 and Viksit Bharat 2047, with a strong emphasis on export-led growth and employment generation.
Key discussions revolved around setting an ambitious roadmap for enhancing Odisha’s contribution to India’s export sector.
Currently contributing around ₹1 lakh crore — approximately 3% of India’s total exports — Odisha aims to increase this figure to ₹3.5 to ₹4.5 lakh crore by 2036 and reach ₹25 to ₹27 lakh crore by 2047, contributing around 5% of the national total. To achieve this, the committee emphasised the need to strengthen local production capabilities to reduce import dependence and boost value-added exports, particularly in sectors such as minerals and industrial raw materials.
Development Commissioner Anu Garg underlined the importance of structural reforms, policy coherence, and regular engagement with stakeholders in creating a resilient export ecosystem. She also highlighted Odisha’s potential to lead regional economic integration by supporting export-led development in landlocked neighbouring states such as Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand through collaborative infrastructure and policy frameworks.
The meeting also reviewed the draft contours of the upcoming Economic Survey, which will cover Odisha’s blue economy, industrial and service sector expansion, infrastructure development, education, skill training, and social welfare. Enhancing port connectivity, addressing existing logistical gaps, and preparing the industrial base to integrate with global value chains were identified as key focus areas.
Convened by the Planning and Convergence Department, the meeting witnessed active participation from senior officials, including Principal Secretaries from the Electronics and IT Department, the Law Department, and other departments involved in the formulation of the survey and economic strategy for the upcoming fiscal year.
