Bhubaneswar/Sambalpur: As announced earlier, the aggrieved farmers of Odisha today resorted to highway blockade protesting against the Farm Bills implemented by the Centre.
In Sambalpur, the farmers under the banner of Western Odisha Krushak Sangathan’s coordination committee blocked the national highway (NH)-5 at Maneswar Chhak for an hour from 11 am to 12 noon. They demanded that the Farm Bills should be withdrawn by the Centre alleging apathetic and lackadaisical attitude towards the interests of farmers in the country.
Same protests were held at the eight districts in Western Odisha.
The protesting farmers also pointed finger at the State Government’s revised policy of paddy procurement.
Similarly, farmers under the banner of Naba Nirmana Krushak Sangathan also held protest here at the State capital city. They assembled at the Hi-Tech Square here along the NH-16.
While normal traffic got affected during the Chakka Jam protest, the aggrieved farmers threatened to intensify their stir in future in a bid to exert pressure on both the Centre and State to fulfill their genuine demands.
