Bhubaneswar: In the wake of a surge in cases of COVID-19 and instances of glaring violations of social distancing norms, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation today closed three major establishments in the city.
According to information shared by the Corporation, the Regional Transport Office – I here at Acharya Vihar was closed after detection of four positive cases. “After detection of 4 positive cases today, BMC today closed RTO office, Acharya Vihar to prevent further spread. Now, all the employees in contact will be mandatorily quarantined,” the BMC tweeted.

Similarly, one branch and a section of another branch of ICICI bank have been closed in the city after detection of 15 positive cases of COVID-19. “As a precautionary measure and larger public interest after detection of 15 positive cases ICICI Bank, Cuttack Road Branch and Sales Section of ICICI Bank, Bhubaneswar Main Branch, near Sriya Talkies have been closed by BMC,” the civic body informed.

Besides, the GATI Godown in Nakhara on outskirts of the city has also been closed after detection of two COVID-19 cases. “After detection of 2 positive cases, BMC today closed Gati Godown at Nakhara. This was done to prevent further spread of the virus. Now, all the employees in contact are mandatorily quarantined,” the BMC stated.

Earlier in the day, the Corporation had closed the campus of Tech Mahindra after seven positive cases of COVID-19 were detected within a week.
Following this action, a post of BMC’s official Twitter handle read:
“After detection of 7 positive cases within a week, BMC today closed Software Company Tech Mahindra for violation of #COVID19 SOP. The company didn’t follow the quarantine guidelines after detection of positive case of an employee. Now all the employees in contact are quarantined.”
