Bhubaneswar: Scripting a story of hope in the battle against novel Coronavirus, 81-year old Gopinath Dakua of Kandhamal district survived the deadly disease and emerged triumphant after a 15-day ordeal.
Dakua, a native of Tala Indragada in Raikia Block of Kandhamal district, was initially undergoing treatment at Indragada Primary Health Centre (PHC) after having influenza and cough.
As Dakua’s health deteriorated and he developed COVID-19 like symptoms, the elderly man was shifted to the nearby Temporary Medical Centre (TMC) at Kalinga Model Residential School (KMRS) in Raikia on June 28.
He underwent a swab test which was positive for the novel Coronavirus. Though his condition was stable, he was shifted to COVID Hospital at Phulbani on July 4. His health condition improved gradually 8th July, 2020 onwards and finally he was discharged from COVID Hospital on July 13.
On being discharged, Dakua expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for extending free treatment to COVID patients. He also expressed his gratitude to the district administration and staff of the COVID Care Hospital.
“During my treatment at COVID Hospital, doctors, nurses and other staff attended sincerely and took good care. Good quality food was also provided in the hospital”, he said.
“Dakua is a bright example of hope and courage to many Corona affected persons. In spite of his old age and various ailments, he defeated COVID-19 which gives a positive message that all should be hopeful to combat the disease in future,” a doctor who was treating the man said.
