**Jharsuguda:** Low-cost airline carrier SpiceJet is all set to begin flight services to New Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad at the Veer Surendra Sai (VSS) Airport in Jharsuguda today under the Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme.
The first flight of SpiceJet will take off from Delhi at 1.15 pm and reach Jharsuguda at 3.10 pm. Then, departure of the same flight from Jharsuguda Airport is scheduled at 3.40 pm and it will reach New Delhi at 5.35 pm.
According to reports, a flight to Hyderabad will take off from Jharsuguda at 4:10 pm and last flight to Kolkata will depart from at 8:40 pm. The airport has a handling capacity of 300 passengers and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 22 last year.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had said, “Jharsuguda with it’s proximity to Jharkhand & Chhattisgarh which are rich in forest resources can be a great breeding ground to develop biofuels to power aeroplanes. Investing in developing alternate fuels to power our aeroplanes at Jharsuguda will pave the way for a new paradigm in the economic development of Odisha. It will also benefit adivasis, tribals & forest dwellers residing in the neighbouring states of Chhattisgarh & Jharkhand.”
