Odisha: Flood Situation Grim in Khurda Block

Khurda: Flood situation remains grim in Khurda block as several villages remain inundated with rivers Daya, Rajua, Malaguni and others are in spate.

Water level in these rivers is gradually swelling with release of flood water from the Hirakud reservoir for the second time this season..

Harimula, Dihakhala, Obarsingh, Ormi, Lekhanpur, Masania, Durgapur, Dhabalapur, Balapur, Manpur, Raipur etc. are the badly affected villages in Khurda block. Intermittent rains have added to the misery of the people in the affected villages

Thousands of hectares of farmlands remain water-logged in these villages. Even after three days of floods hitting these villages, people are yet to get relief. Locals have complained that neither food nor fodder has reached the villages.

Resentment is high among the locals as essentials like dry food, baby food; candles, matches etc. have not reached the affected.

“It is three days since flood waters inundated our village but we are yet to get any relief from the authorities. Forget dry food or baby food we are yet to get candles and match boxes. As fields are inundated, cattle are hungry there is no fodder for them,” complained Baisnab Routaray, an affected local.

However, arrangements by the district administration are underway today to provide cooked food to the affected in the worst affected villages of Harimula and Dihakhala.

“We are on alert following orders by the Collector and the Block Development Officer (BDO) .Boats has been provided to Harimula and Obarsingh villages. We have ample quantities of relief material in stock. In the first phase we will be providing cooked food to the affected in Harimula and Dihakhala villages from today,” informed Sanjay Ratsingh, Sarpanch of Obarsingh.
