Bhubaneswar: The ongoing flood in the Mahanadi system has affected the entire basin of the river. All the tributaries and distributaries of Mahanadi have been affected and are swollen.
Daya river which runs along the Capital City on its east is close to the areas – Sunderpada and Pradhan Sahi on the southern tip of Bhubaneswar.
A swollen Daya river means flood water entering Sunderpada area of the city. This occasion was no exception as flood water started entering habitations since Tuesday evening.
Today morning the situation worsened as the waist-deep water snapped communication and marooned localities. Odisha Fire Service and ODRAF personnel were deployed to rescue stranded people.
In one such case, a couple and their seven-month-old baby were rescued from Khetrapara Pradhan Sahi in Sunderpada. They were sent to the hospital following rescue.
Similarly, five men and three women were rescued by the Fire personnel from Kastia village in Balipatna on the outskirts of the city.
